If you want to extend the season of your above ground swimming pool then installing solar panels for pool heating will surely help you to do that and you can enjoy your pool way beyond the summer. You will most likely have invested a significant amount of money in getting the pool in the first place, so you are probably going to be slightly more sensitive to the high energy costs associated with heating all that water in the conventional way. This challenge is faced by many pool owners and drives them to seek alternative ways of heating their swimming pool or even abandon the project altogether and just wait again for the summer to come around. This days with rising energy costs and of course the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels, employing the use solar panels for pool heating is a fantastic solution.

<img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-425" title="Solar Panels For Pool Heating" src="http://diysolarpanelinstallation.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/blue-watercropped-300x282.jpg" alt="solar panels for pool heating"width="240" height="226" />Solar Panels For Pool Heating

A rising trend over recent years has been the option to go green, as more and more people become sensitive to the changes in the environment. This has resulted in renewable energy being harnessed and utilized to provide heat and power to our homes. Another bonus is as the sun’s energy is free, it also helps reduce those utility bills. With all this in mind, solar panels for pool heating provides a more eco-friendly, energy efficient and economical solution to keep the water in the pool warm.

When comparing the initial cost of installing solar panels for pool heating against a heat pump they come out at roughly the same. After this initial phase that is where the similarity ends, as the operation of the heat pump will cause a rise in your electricity costs. Using your solar panels for pool heating obviously costs absolutely nothing and if you make sure you install quality equipment, they will give you a constant supply of free energy and heat your pool for 25 years or more.

So what do I need to consider before I install solar panels for pool heating? Well, initially you need to find a site on your property where the panels are going to get a enough exposure to the suns rays. This will enable the solar collectors to be more efficient in gathering and delivering the energy required to heat your pool. A good place to locate these solar collectors is on roof tops as they are obviously out of harms way and usually have an unobstructed view of the sky. Although a roof top solution is the most common place to site the panels, there are times when this is not possible. Finding some space on the ground near the pool pump system and placing the collectors on racks is another alternative.

With the solar panels for pool heating set up then next thing to consider is controlling the water temperature to keep it comfortable. There are a couple of options here, one cheaper but less effective than the other and the other much more accurate but more costly. So the cheaper option is to control the pool temperature manually by installing a diverter into the plumbing line. This will enable you to monitor the water and switch the heating on and off accordingly to maintain the optimum temperature. This may be a little more hands-on and not be the most accurate device but as I said, it is much cheaper than using an automatic system. The automatic system uses a thermostat similar to one found in a refrigerator and will automatically maintain the required pool temperature as per its settings in the control unit.

As a final point, at night and during the colder weather, it is also a great idea to get a pool cover. These covers can significantly reduce heat loss and further improve the efficiency of the system. Solar panels for pool heating is by far the most eco-friendly and economical solution to heating your swimming pool allows you to keep on swimming and enjoying your investment long after the summer has finished.

In times gone by the home wind turbine was utilized by farmers to transform the wilderness areas of the United States. It gave them the energy they needed to pump water, helping irrigate the crops and to provide water for grazing herds of sheep and cattle.

Slowly, these remote areas then started to benefit from cheap electric power from the grid and thus, rather sadly, the use of renewable home wind turbine energy just ebbed away.

Today the country and in fact the entire civilized world is harking back to these days. It’s learning to harness wind power on a much larger scale, as the cost for fuel and the impact of it’s usage has had on the environment has risen so dramatically.

There are four main features to home wind turbine energy that make it almost completely unique.

<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-369" title="home wind turbine" src="http://diysolarpanelinstallation.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/rainbow-300x216.jpg" alt="home wind turbine"width="300" height="216" />It is FREE.

It is available just about anywhere.

An effective system can be constructed and used immediatley by anyone with basic DIY skills.

Once set up, it is completely Carbon Neutral.

If everyone had a home wind turbine in line with larger units for towns and cities, they would replace the need for power plants and their need to burn precious fossil fuels, thus creating emmisions and increasing global warming. Obviously this would have massive environmental benefits.

There are incentives and subsidies available in some states that encourage more and more people to take up a home wind turbine project and you can see what these are by checking the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency at www.dsire.org.

A home wind turbine and other renewable energy solutions should be a part of every home’ future proofing plan.

This site contains several articles to show you just how easy it is to build a home wind turbine system that wont just go to reducing your home energy bill, but you can even sell any surplus energy back to the grid, Imagine that! You can see a list of these and many other renewable energy solution projects for you to undertake in your home on the right hand side of the page, or you may just want to click the following link to get you started on your home wind turbine project – build a wind generator

If you want to do DIY Windmill project of any significance, then it is most probably going to need more than a single step to complete. When it comes to choosing to reduce either your cost and/or the cost to the environment, the wind that blows for free in BOTH respects is a fantastic solution.

Many of you will be familiar with picture postcards of windmills dotted across the landscape in old time Holland but modern DIY windmill construction is a completely different proposition. Those bulky old structures to mount the turbine or ‘sails’ are thankfully a thing of the past. They have been replaced with modern, state of the art technology offering efficient electrical generation for your home and in some cases even small cities. Obviously a DIY windmill has nothing to do with powering a small city but as for your home it is more than capable! Here’s the way to reach that goal in a few easy steps.

<img class="size-full wp-image-403 alignright" title="DIY Windmill" src="http://diysolarpanelinstallation.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/turbinenewsky.jpg" alt="diy windmill"width="226" height="234" />A DIY Windmill in 5 Steps

Step 1. Anyone who is considering a DIY windmill project will not need to consider buying any specialist tools to complete the job. Most, if not all of what you will need will be in the workshop or toolbox of an average DIY enthusiast. This will be significant because as this is partly a cost cutting exercise, you don’t want to be shelling out for new and expensive tools. In addition to the tools you will probably already own, you are going to need a few hundred dollars for a kit and some other materials to construct the complete unit. You can also search for some of these additional materials from your local recycling center if and when they are available.

Step 2. There really is no need to build a tower to mount your DIY windmill. A secure frame on your roof will be more than enough support for the generator and the blades. The modern construction of these units means there are fewer moving parts and therefore they are much lighter, this also means that due to these modern materials there will be a significant reduction in vibration, making a roof mount ideal.

Step 3. After building the mount on the roof it brings us to the next logical step. What we are doing here is to mount the blade and gearing onto the frame. You can easily source a kit for this online, there are many out there so make sure you take your requirements, such as output, noise and size into consideration. Furthermore, it is advisable to choose ones that are well referenced (check customer reviews) and it would be even better if you could view one in operation so you know what to expect before you start your DIY windmill project. Seeing the windmill in operation is often overlooked, but seeing it working will answer questions that you probably wouldn’t even have thought to ask.

Step 4. DIY windmills come in many different shapes and sizes, so doing your homework and getting the correct one for your site and requirements is definitely time well spent. Look in detail at the local building codes, noise limitation levels and any height restrictions that may apply. Blades being the driving force of the system are cheaper if made from wood and composite and have the added benefit of being quieter and less prone to vibration that the metal ones. As part of the planning for your DIY windmill you will need to investigate the prevailing wind and how much of it you can expect and where it will be coming from. You can purchase a wind meter and gather the data yourself over time or you can purchase an accurate government approved wind atlas online. These planning options are fundamental in a successful DIY windmill project, as they define the equipment you are going to use, ignore them at your peril.

Step 5. The overall installation of your DIY windmill could be completed over a weekend but, if you want to construct everything from scratch then you need to allow a little longer. As an additional suggestion, you might want to construct a tail assembly with simple woodworking that will keep the turbine facing the breeze, making it much more efficient.

<img class="alignright size-full wp-image-389" title="Caution - Think Safety" src="http://diysolarpanelinstallation.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/caution-sign.jpg" alt="diy windmill"width="150" height="180" />To summarize, as simple as it may seem, your DIY windmill is no toy and safety is paramount. Any access to the unit needs to be restricted. Those blades can be fatal to children and adults alike, plus all of the electrical systems need to be properly insulated. If you are unfamiliar with this, or just for piece of mind then it’s worth getting a professional electrician to install the wiring, or at the very least check it out to ensure it’s safe to use.

Finally, when you have followed the above mentioned tips closely, you are going to succeed in your DIY windmill project and may then take pleasure in the fruits of your labour. Pat yourself on the back, be a little pleased with yourself. You set out to accomplish your main goal and you just succeeded!

If you didn’t continue with the tips set forth above, well… good luck anyway. You will probably need it…

These are the Golden rules that you should always keep in mind and when you build your own windmill. These are really important and useful guideposts to help you keep on track and headed in the right direction. For a successful project all you need to do is follow them.

<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-363" title="build your own windmill" src="http://diysolarpanelinstallation.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/wmill-259x300.jpg" alt="Build Your Own Windmill"width="259" height="300" />The 5 Golden Rules when you build your own windmill.

Golden Rule # 1, Do you have enough wind to get the whole project off the ground?. This may see a bit of a silly question but, if the wind resources are not there then you are going to find it very difficult to generate enough power with this system. Experts advise that if you a going to build your own windmill then you are going to need an average wind speed in the range of 8-14 miles per hour. Remember, it is a good idea to analyze your site to find how much wind it gets. You can buy a wind meter or alternatively contact a wind site assessor who has the tools to measure wind speed and will be able to provide you with an accurate estimation of the wind power you can expect in your area.

Golden Rule # 2, You will need to consider the best place mount the system when you build your own windmill. This can affect you later on because you don’t want the system to be in the way of trees and overhanging branches Make certain and remember that tall buildings and other geographical features can also affect the overall efficiency of the system..

Golden Rule # 3, Noise pollution can be a big factor when farming wind because your neighbours could suffer as a result. The good thing is, not all wind turbines are noisy. In fact newer style wooden and composite fiber blades create less vibration and noise than their older counterparts. Therefore it is very important that before you begin to build your own windmill that you research the models available and chose the most suitable system given your requirements.

Golden Rule # 4, Of the factors you need to consider when you build your own windmill the most important is safety. These wind power systems are more dangerous than other renewable energy sources due to the moving parts. So you will need to be extra careful when you are installing your wind power system and consider potential hazards. You might accomplish this by assessing where you have put the system and what potential hazards there could be. At the very least make sure there is no easy access to the system from any children or pets in the area.

Golden Rule # 5, Usually you will find when you build your own windmill on your property that there are a few legalities you will need to consider. These might include building permits, zoning requirements, electrical permits and health and safety requirements. You can accomplish this by contacting your local planning office and discussing the project with them. Once you have crossed these bridges you are well and truly on your way.

Other benefits when you build your own windmill include, various tax benefits and incentives schemes for people such as yourself who have employed a renewable energy system. If you want to find out which incentives are available to you then log on to the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency at www.dsire.org.

Wind power is a fascinating renewable energy source and we hope that these facts listed here have helpful given you an insight into it’s many advantages. When you build your own windmill it will save you money and the environment and best of all it will be a really fun project for you to enjoy!

From the outset, when you are considering if you should build a wind generator, you may look at the tasks involved and think that the job is too big for you. So how exactly does one eat an elephant? (A complete ELEPHANT?!?) The standard answer to that question is, “Only one bite at a time!” How To complete any large task has essentially the same answer, “One step at a time.” Taken all-at-once it could be overwhelming. If you organize it into steps, stages, logical pieces, then you’re able to see how to accomplish it, bit by bit. Those steps can each be something that’s not so difficult, something that you can do. And when you have them all done, why, you find that you have accomplished your whole large task. It is the same way with how to build a wind generator at home, whilst making great savings on your energy bills and really doing your bit for the environment, you also have the enjoyment of a truly great DIY project to get stuck into.

<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-352" title="build a wind generator" src="http://diysolarpanelinstallation.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/aturbine-266x300.jpg" alt="build a wind generator"width="266" height="300" />Build a Wind Generator In 7 Simple Steps

Step 1. Find a site that gets plentiful wind supply with the minimum of obstructions, e.g. from trees and/or surrounding buildings. This means that you should consider the possibility of mounting the turbine on your roof. You don’t need to worry about the vibration and noise disturbing anyone as the lightweight construction of modern generators means they are fine to be roof mounted. If your house is in a low point you may want to consider mounting the turbine on a pole, but to do this you would need to check any building height restrictions for your neighbourhood. Should you choose not to do this or forget to, you may be forced to take down the construction by your local authority.

Step 2. When you are planning to build a wind generator, you need to audit the entire energy requirement of your whole household. This part is very important because you will need to determine what your required output is before you purchase any equipment.

Step 3. Think about the skills required to build a wind generator, if the technology is new to you or don’t posses any engineering skills, you should consider buying a kit. A kit set will likely include a blade, tail assembly, gearing systems for your generator, a generating unit and also all of the wiring and cables you’ll need to hook the unit up to your storage batteries. In addition, it means that as the most likely choice for mounting the turbine will be on the roof, a DIY enthusiast with average skills will have no problem at all in constructing this.

Step 4. Safety is key here, as mentioned in step 1 it is important the structure will not be in the way of any trees or overhanging branches and also that it can’t be got at by children or pets. This will involve taking a look at the area and considering any threats to the generator once it is mounted.

Step 5. Get some help! Assembly of the tail assembly, gearing and the generator is going to be task for more than one due to the size of the windmill and how cumbersome it can be. A significant point to bear in mind here is if you are new to the the wiring and connection of a motor turning the energy into electricity then you may require the skills of a professional electrician. Especially if you intend to supply any surplus electricity to the grid for a credit. The reason this is very important is purely down to safety. Not just whilst you are making the connections but when the system is being used, a professional will adhere to specific required standards to prevent any faulty wiring exposing anyone to a shock or worse, causing a fire.

Step 6. If your project to build a wind generator is to be taken seriously, invest in a wind meter that will indicate the direction and strength of the prevailing wind over a period of time. You can purchase a wind atlas online that will be authorized by the government to help you in your assessment.

Step 7. Remember that even though as a DIY enthusiast and apart from saving money, when you build a wind generator, this is of great benefit to the environment and this should not be taken lightly. You now are nearly there! Do remember, windmills have been around for a very long time, several hundred years in fact. Although these early systems were primarily for grinding grain and in the early days of electricity generation the burning of fossil fuels was the cheapest option. Today the trend to build a wind generator is becoming more and more popular as energy costs spiral and the impact of pollution of the environment is there for all to see. Also, as these units become more popular there is the added benefit that price drops and some states will offer subsidies and grants in line with the environmental benefits.

If you keep to the steps set forth above, step-by-step the enormous elephant-challenge you were facing will be “consumed”, conquered and finished off. You will complete your fun project, save money, succeed and be able to enjoy the benefits and fruits of accomplishment and victory! Congratulations for your triumph! You undertook this challenge, overcame it and won, and helped reduce the threat of global warming.

A Cool Solar DIY Pool Heater Project

As we all know Summer is a wonderful time and brings about great pleasures like outdoor sports, family gatherings, BBQ’s and of course swimming. If you our your family are lucky enough to own your own pool then you can pretty much enjoy your own mini-vacation in your backyard. However, in some parts of the country the summer can be quite a short season and whilst the air temperature in late fall and even early spring can be warm, the pool water tends to still be a little too chilly. The perfect way to extend the use of the family pool and your swimming season is to add a Solar DIY Pool Heater.

You will already have a pool pump so to get started with you DIY pool heater project just locate the return line from the filter to the pool and make a break (DO NOT do this in front of the filter as you don’t want the warm water from the collector going through the filter). At this break in the line you then need to insert a couple of ‘T’ joints separated by a valve. A Pipe running from the 1st ‘T’ joint carries water to the solar collector and the 2nd ‘T’ is used as the return from the collector. The valve between these 2 ‘T’ joints controls the flow of water being diverted to you solar collector. When there is no Sun during the evening the solar collectors should not have any water passed through them as this will have the opposite effect and lower the pool temperature. You also don’t want the collectors having water passed through them when the pool is at the correct temperature otherwise you are going to have difficulty maintaining it.

The Solar Collectors for Your DIY Pool Heater

You can always skip this step and buy a commercial unit and fit it yourself, either way you are going to need basic plumbing skills and the right tools for the job. The Heart of your DIY pool heater system is the solar collector unit. This solar collector in it’s basic form is just a large box which has been painted black and inside you have a black pipe(PVC) tightly packed, running up and down to allow it maximum sun exposure. Then some glass covers the box to keep the inside air temp inside it nice and warm. This can be made by you as part of your DIY pool heater project, just make sure the PVC black pipe is exactly the same diameter as other pump lines. You can use a strong glue or stainless steel clamps to fasten the connecting collars but you will need to make sure you allow the correct drying time for the glue if you use it.

Installing and Mounting the Collector on You DIY Pool Project

When starting out on you solar DIY pool heater project you will want to consider where you are going to mount the collector. You can put it on virtually any roof you have, your house, shed, garage and you can even place them on the ground. If you are trying to cut out some of the construction work involved in your DIY pool heater project then if you have the space a ground installation would be ideal. Putting them up on the roof needs to be well thought out and safety precautions are a must. You want the collector to be facing South and must be secured to the roof very well to prevent any damage during strong winds or storms. You don’t want any shade to fall on the collector by trees of other buildings if you can avoid it as this will obviously decrease efficiency. East and West configurations work well also but a North facing collector would be so inefficient it would end up being a waste of time.

The Maintenance Safety Valves and Drainage Openings

After you have installed your DIY pool heater you will want to occasionally disconnect it for servicing, so I would advise you install some manual valves on the send and return lines. You also need to have a way of draining the collectors of their water in preparation for the winter. This is easily done by installing removable clamps on the couplings giving you pipe access.

As you would imagine there are plenty of companies that sell DIY pool products that you might want to consider like DIY pool heater controls, motorized valves and sensors. Although these are aimed at the DIY pool market you would still need some electrical knowledge to install them correctly and safely.

We all realize the benefits of installing solar panels, namely that you can harness the power of the sun to replace your current home heating system to greenly and efficiently heat your hot water and your home, but not many consider the option of a DIY Solar Panel Installation. Whilst in the earlier years of their development solar panels were almost exclusively used in countries that benefited from a large amount of sun, recent developments in the technology have seen their use expand across the world and even countries that do not have the best weather are realising the benefits they can bring.

DIY Solar Panel Installation

Whilst there is an investment in installing them, they continue to pay you back, month after month as you experience a serious reduction in your heating bill. It’s only a matter of time before you break even on your investment and then everything else is pure profit, money that stays in your pocket and pays for your vacations, or your next cool DIY project like our harnessing wind power in your home money saver that compliments your DIY Solar Panel Installation perfectly.

More Benefits With A DIY Solar Panel Installation

The other side to installing solar panels at your property is the value add to your property. In fact, people often ask us, “Hey guys, I am not planning on staying in my home for years, I feel another move is on the cards in a few years as my family grows, is it worth making the effort of doing a DIY Solar Panel Installation?” and the answer often surprises them. Yes! Absolutely you should because not only are you reducing your carbon footprint, your monthly fuel costs and more, you are actually making your home more marketable. Think about it for a second, if your were looking to move to a new neighborhood and you saw two properties in the same street, both pretty much identical but one had solar panels installed, which one would you choose? Of course, you would take the one with the solar panels installed knowing that you would save a considerable amount of money year on year. What if that property was slightly more expensive to buy but demonstrated real year on year savings? Again if the math worked out you would take the solar panel property.

Going back to your property, what if you could save a large upfront cost by doing a DIY Solar Panel Installation rather than paying an installer to do it for you? It really is possible to cut your investment in solar panels significantly by doing the work yourself, be it buying the panels direct and installing yourself or taking this project to the next level and actually build your own solar panels. It really is possible to start from scratch and do this yourself.

So to recap, the benefits of a DIY Solar Panel Installation are Fourfold:

1. You will have a really cool DIY project to get stuck into which when completed will be totally rewarding.

2. You will save a huge amount of money over paying an installer to do it for you

3. You will achieve a return on your investment much earlier, putting more money in your pocket

4.You will add value to your property, making your property more marketable when you sell it

Solar panels have helped provide a sustainable source of power to craft in space exploration for decades, and many people never realize how this technology can be simplified to enable you to build your own solar panels capable of supplying your home directly with it’s electricity needs.

Learning to Build Your Own Solar Panels

Learning how to build your own solar panels requires some of the tools you may already have in your garage and maybe a few items here and there that can be sourced at your local recycling center or you can even get them on eBay. You don’t have to be a DIY expert or have an engineering degree, you just need to be hands-on, have the desire to build your own solar panels, a few dollars and up to a couple of days of free time.

Materials needed to Build your Own Solar Panels

First of all you’ll need to make yourself a materials list and then go and source them.

The basic stuff you’ll need is ;

Black Paint, a Silicone Sealant, Wooden Boxing, Clear Plastic Paneling, some Solder, Wiring and some Glue.

The most important things you will need are the cells you are going to join together to build the panel itself. Try not to buy the cheapest ones and select the ones that already have tabs. Now how many of these cells you will need depends on how much power you are looking to generate, as a general rule you will need to allow for the fact that even the best build your own solar panels systems will only deliver around 80% of the claimed output.

Once you have all of the components the fun begins and you can start to build your own solar panels! Constructing the panel at this stage is about as difficult as a jigsaw puzzle, it really is that simple. To start with take your cells and glue them in a ’6×6′ configuration, this series of 36 cells is the most effective and you should join up the tabs to make sure you are only getting a one-way flow of electricity. Then mount this onto a backing board and secure it inside a well insulated box. Now paint the box black and take your clear plastic panel and screw it down over the face of the cells taking care not to damage them and then finally seal it up with a bead of silicone.

Now that you have taken the time to build your own solar panels it is now time to hook them up to a storage battery or batteries should you require. At this stage most people find it necessary to consult an electrician. This entire process should have taken you no more time than a weekend and it isn’t exactly complicated or labour intensive but is really satisfying when you get them working for you.

You will need to find an area of a few feet on your roof that is totally clear from the shade of trees and/or other buildings in order to mount the system as the last thing you need when you have taken the trouble to build your own solar panels is that they are inefficient. The good thing is they don’t have to face South in order to maximise on the solar energy from the sun. Also, you will need to make sure all of your wiring is well insulated and also the back of the box to minimise any loss of heat energy.

Why Should you Build your own Solar Panels ? <img class="size-full wp-image-101 alignleft" title="build your own solar panels thumbsup" src="http://diysolarpanelinstallation.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/thumbsup.jpg" alt="build your own solar panels"width="141" height="131" />

Now that you understand how to build your own solar panels and how simple they are, it can be so easy to forget the fact that they make a serious contribution to the energy demands of your home. In this era where burning fossil fuels and other sources of non-renewable energy is seeing our oceans polluted from oil spills and our wilderness being threatened by mining, any attempt to seek an alternative source must be embraced.

Solar Power by it’s very nature is environmentally neutral and it is worth considering that even though you are ultimately getting cheap power when you build your own solar panels, you are also giving something back. The future of your children and many generations to follow may very well be dependent on initiatives such as these.

Thankfully for the future of our planet the sun is always going to be there and it is always going to be a great source of energy for all of us and no utility company is ever going to charge you for using it! Learning to build your own solar panels is a really fun project that the whole family can get involved in and also saving money are just two of the benefits of doing a DIY Solar Panel Installation, it is also a real supply of renewable FREE energy for anyone who is conscious of the environment, just how cool is that?

If you are wondering if it’s a good idea to go for swimming pool solar heating or not then there are a couple of things you might want to consider. If the pool is outside and only requires heating in the summer months and you get it right, then a solar thermal system may be the only heat source you will ever need. If it’s an indoor pool, then as a primary heat source the thermal collectors can work when they are backed-up with a boiler, ground source heat pump or an electric heater.

Swimming Pool Solar Heating

Another good thing about swimming pool solar heating is that it is not limited by the size of the pool, it is just as effective be it Olympic sized going right down to a smaller domestic pool, it really doesn’t matter so long as you optimize the correct collection area.

Right now is the ideal time to consider swimming pool solar heating if you are in the process of building or designing a new pool. If you already have your own pool and are looking to save a lot of money on heating it or just looking for a great DIY Solar Panel Installation Project to get stuck into then you can easily retro-fit a thermal system alongside your existing heat sources.

Swimming Pool Solar Heating Collectors

It’s also important to consider where to put the collectors and also what size collectors you will need to use. Too small or badly positioned then you are not going to be able to heat your pool to a usable temperature. If the collector area is too big, you won’t use all of the energy you collect and will be wasting part of your initial investment.

From the Collectors to the Pool

The high operating temperatures of swimming pool solar heating mean that plastic pipes are unsuitable so copper or stainless steel must be used. You can run this pipework above or below ground but it definitely needs to be insulated and where required, protected. The total area of the collector coupled with the length of the pipework run will determine the diameter of pipe required.

Heat Exchange and Controls

When using swimming pool solar heating you need to have a method of transferring the heat from the system into the pool water. This is where the heat exchanger comes in. Typically, you want to install the heat exchanger in-line, but upstream of the secondary heat source and close to the pool’s circulation system.

You can put the controls close to the heat exchanger and would optimize these at the point of installation. After you have set the controls correctly you shouldn’t need anymore interaction with them but you should still take regular readings from the display to ensure that everything is functioning as it should. The control system will monitor the temperatures of both the pool and collectors and if useful solar energy can be gained will start the pump and when that energy wains it will shut off the pump. Last but not least the safety features installed into a swimming pool solar heating system will ensure that the water never gets too high and if necessary ensure adequate protection against components freezing in cold weather.

Once Installed correctly swimming pool solar heating will be a very cheap, efficient and reliable way to heat your swimming pool for years to come, with a simple annual inspection and the heat transfer being checked and replaced (if necessary) every five years.
